Notes: Emanuel Navarrete got a legitimately establishing sort of win on Saturday, claiming the WBO title in a victory over Ruben Villa, but it was not easy and it was far from flawless. Navarrete goes up one spot to No. 4, and I think you could argue him up to No. 3 if you wanted to, but those top three guys could all be hell for Navarrete. I’d like to see any of the fights, mind you, Navarrete’s fun and they’d be good matchups. I also bumped Villa up two spots; I know this is not how a lot of people would do it, but to that say I make your own list, and also boxing just doesn’t really work that way. It would be super nice if it did and was as black-and-white as “you lose you go down,” but Villa was highly competitive against a really good fighter. He hops over Magdaleno, who turned down the fight with Navarrete, Walsh is a fine fighter but doesn’t have any big wins himself, and Magsayo just barely won his most recent outing. This is not the best division; there are good fighters up top but there has been a mass exodus of talent going up to 130 in the last year, including Shakur Stevenson, Leo Santa Cruz, Oscar Valdez, and Carl Frampton. That’s 40% of what was at one point the top 10. A new order will start to take shape. It’s starting to already.
