MTK wins purse bid for Galahad-Dickens IBF title fight

With Josh Warrington recently vacating the IBF featherweight title, the 126-pound division has a world title vacancy, and it will be filled — as originally expected — by a fight between top-rated contenders Kid Galahad and Jazza Dickens.

It figured to be an easy enough fight to make, and it seems it will be. Dan Rafael reports that MTK Global have won the purse bid at $202,500, and were the only company that offered a bid.

If it happens, the fight will actually be a rematch. Galahad stopped Dickens in the 10th round back in 2013, when they met for the vacant British title at 122 pounds.

The 30-year-old Galahad (27-1, 16 KO) was already mandatory challenger, and had fought Warrington in a controversial, narrow losing effort in June 2019. If this fight goes through, he’ll be a clear favorite.

Dickens (30-3, 11 KO) is actually the younger man at 29, but feels like the older fighter. He challenged Guillermo Rigondeaux for the WBA 122-pound title in 2016, losing inside of two rounds. He’s currently on an eight-fight win streak, and beat Ryan Walsh on Dec. 2 to win MTK’s “Golden Contract” tournament.
