As revealed at the start of the month, Michael Hunter’s August 3rd WBA eliminator against Mike Wilson will kick off Triller’s “TrillerVerz” series, “an unprecedented series of spectacular combat sports and music” held on the first Tuesday of every month.
I am hideously ill-equipped to analyze the headlining rap battle, so let’s just talk about the fights.
Hunter (19-1-1, 13 KO) turned down an IBF eliminator against Filip Hrgovic to fight Wilson (21-1, 10 KO), a 38-year-old career cruiserweight who got demolished by Denis Lebedev in his only step up. It’s a garbage fight that will presumably earn the winner a crack at garbage champion Trevor Bryan.
Over in the co-feature, former WBO super lightweight champ Chris Algieri (24-3, 9 KO) ends a two-year layoff against onetime title challenger Mikkel LesPierre (22-2, 10 KO). LesPierre had nothing for a weight-drained Maurice Hooker and even less for Jose Pedraza in his most recent effort, so Algieri should be a sizeable favorite even at 37.
The card will also feature Eric Walker (20-3, 9 KO) vs. Ivan Golub (22-2-1. 10 KO), plus the latest from Joe Ward (3-1, 2 KO), amateur standout Christina Cruz, Aaron Aponte (3-0. 1 KO), Matthew Tinker (6-0, 5 KO). Robert Sabbagh (2-0, 2 KO), and Nikoloz Sekhniashvili (7-0, 5 KO)
