LAS VEGAS – Even though they exchanged insults and punches at their press conference to announce their November 6th showdown, Canelo Alvarez insists that he doesn’t have any real animosity or even an opinion on what type of person Caleb Plant is.
Several reporters posed the question during fight week along with his recollection of their encounter at their first press conference.
“I don’t know him personally and I don’t have any reason to say anything good or bad about him. He is just my next opponent and I really have nothing to say about him as a person,” Alvarez explained.
Alvarez, who enters the fight as a 10-1 favorite by several sportsbooks, is supremely confident heading into Saturday’s showdown. At 31-year-old, the Guadalajara native believes that he is at the peak of his career and that he is the better fighter in all aspects.
“I feel like I am in my prime and that I am the superior fighter. That is what makes me feel confident but I am not overlooking him. I never like to underestimate my opponents. I know what he has and he is a great fighter with a lot of abilities,” Canelo stated.
While Saturday night is just another day in the office for Alvarez, it will be by far the biggest fight of Plant’s career.
According to Alvarez, there isn’t anything a fighter can do to replicate the big fight experience and even admitted to it affecting him when he faced Floyd Mayweather in 2013 when he was just 23-years-old.
“It is different for them obviously because it is their first really big event and you can see it. It happened to me when I fought with Floyd Mayweather when he was the best pound-for-pound fighter – which was my first event that big. It was a little different for me. You can feel the difference in the fight,” said Alvarez.
