With the big lightweight fight between Vasiliy Lomachenko and Teofimo Lopez back on for this fall, Lopez tells RingTV that he can’t wait to get his hands on the unified titleholder. Lopez says that despite whatever confidence or bravado the Ukrainian champion might be outwardly showing, on the inside he’s really training his ass off because he understand what he’s up against.
Lopez would go on to say that Lomachenko is really a ‘fat boy’ who just doesn’t look like one, reasoning that he’s fighting over his ideal weight and the wear and tear on his body has been starting to show.
“At the end of the day, I’m going to beat the shit out of him,” Lopez says. “I’m not Linares. Everybody knows that. I’m not Pedraza. I’m not any of those guys he beat. They can say Loma is No. 1 at 135 and I’m second. Well, we’re going to change that when we fight. I’m not worried.”
The IBF champion says there’s no way Lomachenko is feeling his age and the strain from a 400 fight amateur career to go along with his professional campaign, and that’s where he expects the difference will show. After all, Lopez is only 23 years old while Lomachenko is 32 and coming off some injuries.
“It’s going to be worse for Loma than it was for Commey. I’m going to be on him like a savage. I’ve been dying to fight. I’ve been locked in a cage and ready to eat. My hands have been itching so bad. I feel sorry for my sparring partners.”
Lopez adds that Lomachenko gets frustrated when opponents land on him, and he’s obviously expecting to do a lot of that to the point he says you should be surprised if Loma lashes out and kicks him in the balls. That scenario seems a little outlandish, but that’s what Lopez said, before saying he can’t wait to ‘pierce Loma’s skull.’
