With WBC middleweight champion Jermall Charlo set to defend his world title against Sergiy Derevyanchenko on September 26, both fighters held their opening press conference remotely, virtually hosted by Brian Custer.
Both fighters fielded questions about their upcoming bout, which is viewed as a very competitively matched fight, and we even get a cameo appearance of Charlo’s vintage Dolorean, courtesy of Marty McFly, no doubt.
When Charlo was asked about why he believes he’s going to score a stoppage over Derevyanchenko when neither Gennadiy Golovkin nor Daniel Jacobs could, Charlo responded:
“I’m no Danny Jacobs…I’m no GGG. This a whole different type of fight…I been at home training, going crazy. I can’t wait to fight…I’m at the top of my game. I’m not worried about what they saying about, you know, the level of competition. I already know this is a so-called step-up fight…I’m ready for whatever challenge comes. Ya’ll get a chance to see Jermall Charlo be the best Jermall Charlo he can be.”
Derevyanchenko was then asked why he believes he’ll come away with a world title in this outing after falling short a couple of times, and he said:
“Because I’ve had the experience fighting at this level with the likes of Jacobs and GGG, tremendous experience at the highest level. I have supreme, utmost confidence in myself.”
