Moran vs. Solis Boxeo Telemundo Weigh-In Report From Kissimmee

Boxing Scene

All boxers but one did their part at the scale to ensure that the summer season finale of Boxeo Telemundo moves forward without issue.

Antonio Moran and Luis Solis collide in a scheduled 10-round welterweight clash atop Friday’s show live on Telemundo (12:00 am ET) from Osceola Heritage Park in Kissimmee, Florida. Both boxers weighed in right at the contracted weight of 143 pounds.

The weight marks a career-heaviest for Mexico City’s Moran (24-4-1, 17KOs), who has spent most of his career as a lightweight and only recently moved up to junior welterweight. Friday’s clash with Yucatán’s Solis (25-10-4, 21KOs) is a one-and-done occasion at welterweight, agreeing to fight above the 140-pound limit as Solis is coming down from junior middleweight where he has spent his last two bouts.

In the televised chief support, rising welterweight prospect Xander Zayas (4-0, 3KOs) faces Orlando Salgado (1-0, 1KO) in a four-round bout. Zayas—a recent graduate from Plantation (Florida) High School who originally hails from San Juan, Puerto Rico—weighed 146 pounds; Salgado weighed 144 pounds.

Zayas’ fight comes just hours before his 18th birthday, which he celebrates this Saturday.

The lone boxer to not make weight was Alexis Gaytan, who has been granted an extra hour by the Florida State Boxing Commission to come correct for his scheduled four-round bout versus Nikoloz Sekhniashvili. The middleweight bout figures to move forward, regardless. Sekhniashvili (6-0, 4KOs)—a California-based Georgian—who along with Zayas is managed by Peter Kahn—weighed 161 pounds.

Friday’s card also marks the return of Bryan Polaco (1-0, 1KO) Puerto Rico’s leading candidate to medal in the rescheduled 2020 Tokyo Olympics, which now takes place next July. Polaco has since decided to stay active in the pro ranks while still biding his time for next summer, as he faces Joshua Sikes just three weeks after making his pro debut in this very venue.

Both boxers weighed 154 pounds for their four-round junior middleweight contest.

Former amateur standout Marques Valle makes his own pro debut on the card. The 21-year old from Wesley Chapel, Florida—who is managed by Split T Management’s Tim VanNewhouse—weighed 148 pounds for his four-round welterweight battle versus Jernato Harris, who weighed 149 pounds.

Rounding out the six-fight show, Los Angeles’ Anthony Olascuaga also makes his pro debut as he faces Edwin Reyes in a six-round junior flyweight clash. The 21-year old Olascuaga—whose Olympic dream ended at the Trials last December in Lake Charles, Louisiana—weighed 110 pounds, while Reyes (8-5-3, 5KOs)—a former stablemate of IBF super middleweight titlist Caleb Plant and based out of the greater Nashville area—weighed 108 pounds.
