Fury adds Takam to mix for next fight in December

Tyson Fury is looking to secure an opponent soon for a possible return fight in December, most likely, it seems on Dec. 5 in the United Kingdom, and another name is now in the mix.

Agit Kabayel was the first name mentioned about eight days ago, and promoter Yvon Michel threw Oscar Rivas’ name in there just after it came out that Fury was going to fight, and not against Deontay Wilder, at the end of the year.

Now, veteran Carlos Takam has been thrown into the pot. Co-promoter Joe DeGuardia of Star Boxing tells Sky Sports that they would absolutely want the fight:

“This would be a rare time for Carlos when he would have the proper opportunity to train. That AJ fight was on short notice. This one he’s training and ready, and Carlos would certainly love the opportunity to fight Fury. He would love to fight Fury, he believes he would win the fight. He’s looking forward to an opportunity, if we can make the deal.”

Takam (39-5-1, 28 KO) is 39 years old and has had big opportunities before, losing to Alexander Povetkin in 2014, Joseph Parker in 2016, Anthony Joshua in 2017, and Derek Chisora in 2018. He’s been a solid heavyweight over his career, a fringe contender type, but never someone at the top of the rankings.

That said, he’s right there with guys like Rivas or Kabayel in terms of “deserving” this fight. He’s not going to be considered a major threat to Fury, but the reality of this situation is that there’s nobody available for Fury to fight in December who would be. This is going to happen because Fury wants to fight, and the Deontay Wilder trilogy bout just isn’t happening for the time being.

The favorites seem to be Kabayel and Takam. If it’s between those two, what would you rather see?
