Demsey McKean is working hard as he readies himself to perform on one of Australia’s biggest events of 2020, as he acts as chief support to rising star Tim Tsyzu on December 16 in Sydney.
The card from the Bank West Stadium in Sydney that will be carried live on FOX Sports will see McKean defend his IBF and WBO titles against fellow regional champion Tupou. McKean discussed being added to what is proving to be a stacked card in Sydney.
McKean said, “I’m absolutely delighted to be added to this card and make a defense of my titles and thank you to my team at ACE Boxing along with the team at Dreamtime Boxing for making this fight happen for me.
“This is a really good test for me and based on how bad this year has been, I’m over the moon to be getting such a great opportunity to fight on a big card, so I’m very grateful for that to be happening. This fight is a step in the right direction towards a world title and that is my goal.
“Tupou has ambition, he wants to be a world champion and believes he can fight for a world title. I have nothing but respect for the guy but I’m going to show that Australia’s number one heavyweight is Demsey McKean.”
McKean is in camp with rising trainer Stephen Ng and the towering Queensland man discussed his training with the head of Team No Excuses.
The undefeated Aussie said, “Training has gone really well with my trainer Stephen Ng. Stephen and the whole team have really pushed me and I really have the fire in my belly for this fight, so it’s only shown that in training.
“We constantly look to improve in camp. Obviously, with the COVID-19 restrictions, it hasn’t been the easiest of tasks but we have a well-oiled machine at ACE Boxing that will always look to make the best of every situation we are in. So training camp has gone as well as it could do.
“The whole objective in camp is to improve, I believe I’m improving to show I can challenge for a world title in 2021. That’s the plan in my mind and I’m expecting to put on a performance that will put the heavyweight champions on notice.”
