Like a decrepit jalopy desperately wheeling itself away from an oncoming train, Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez’s December 19th return to the ring has been bumped up a day to Friday, December 18th to avoid competing with Canelo Alvarez vs Callum Smith. It could, however, now conflict with Gennadiy Golovkin vs Kamil Szeremeta.
The press release also promised “additional fights” and revealed that the card will run you a cool $24.99 on FITE TV or the FITE app.
“I’m looking forward to hosting my first fight and appreciate all the support and love I’ve received from everybody,” Ramirez said. “I know it’s been a long road to return, but I feel great having full control of my career and being able to fight whenever, wherever, and however, I want. As always, I appreciate my trainers — Julian Chua, Joel Flores, and Chris Wong — keeping me in shape since my last fight and I feel better than ever to step back in the ring. I’ll see you guys Dec. 18 in Texas!”
Ramirez (40-0, 26 KO), fighting for the first time since skipping out on a WBO light heavyweight eliminator against Eleider Alvarez, faces Alfonso Lopez (32-3, 25 KO). “El Tigre” is 38 and hasn’t faced a quality opponent since 2012.
In the co-feature, Michael Hunter (18-1-1, 12 KO) makes his own return opposite Spokane’s Chauncy Welliver (57-13-5, 23 KO), having apparently frightened TBA into withdrawing. Welliver is 37 and has lost to every competent foe he’s yet faced.
As an aside, the game Hades is $24.99 on Steam. If that amount is burning a hole in your pocket, might I direct you that way.
