With Anthony Joshua successfully getting pasted his IBF mandatory defense against Kubrat Pulev, Joshua has turned his attention towards an undisputed heavyweight title fight against WBC champion Tyson Fury. But despite Joshua publicly declaring that he wants to knock Fury’s head off, Fury thinks it’s just meaningless bluster coming from his opponent.
“This fight has been brewing for a long time. They have been avoiding me for a long time and now it’s finally got to happen. They either run away from the fight and announce it publicly, or take the fight. Either way it’s a lose-lose situation for him.”
Fury would continue by saying that although Joshua talks a big game, he’s never seen him float anybody’s head off their shoulders so just chalks it up to cheap talk that Joshua won’t be able to back up inside of the ring. In fact, Fury doesn’t even think Joshua has the guts to really go for it should they meet inside the ring.
“I don’t think he’s as good as people crack him up to be, or he doesn’t believe he is, in his own self. He’s got a confidence issue. He’s coming off two shaky performances. Boxing is all about who is in form and who isn’t. On his last two fights he’s not in form, on mine I am. Momentum is with me and I just believe I take him out early, very early. Maybe even one round, two rounds.”
But while both heavyweights sort of talk up a prospective fight between them, at this time it remains to be seen whether or not that fight will actually come off next, and if it does, will all their world titles be on the line? For now it seems that Fury still has to iron out his situation regarding a third Deontay Wilder fight while Joshua may have to make a WBO mandatory title defense against Oleksandr Usyk.
