Broner to face Campa in Feb. 13 Showtime return

Fighting

Adrien Broner has a dance partner for his February return to the ring, though it’s not anyone you’ll recognize. Mike Coppinger, confirming an earlier report from Fernando Barbosa, reports that “AB” will meet Mexico’s Pedro Campa in a Showtime main event that BoxRec has down for the 13th.

If you do recognize Campa (31-1-1, 21 KO), it may be from his brief stint as a potential opponent for Maurice Hooker in 2019. It being a Friday, I’ll just tweak and re-use my blurb on him from last time:

Campa (31-1-1, 21 KO), a 27-year-old out of Sonora, Mexico, has carved out a niche fighting moderate opposition in his home country. In addition to victories over former title challengers Marvin Quintero and Juan Antonio Rodriguez, he’s suffered a TKO loss to journeyman Carlos Jimenez and gone to a draw with Abner Lopez in April of 2019.

Not exactly the cream of the crop, but then again, neither is Broner (33-4-1, 24 KO). The former multi-division champion hasn’t tasted victory since 2017, when he narrowly defeated Adrian Granados. His three subsequent fights featured a draw with Jessie Vargas sandwiched between clear losses to Mikey Garcia and Manny Pacquiao.

This is a pretty blatant get-well fight for Broner, who claims he’s sobered up. If there’s anything left of him, this should be easy work.

The card will also feature a solid heavyweight clash pitting Otto Wallin against two-time world title challenger Dominic Breazeale.
