Following his WBO junior middleweight title win over Patrick Teixeira over the weekend, newly-crowned world champion Brian Castano talks about his big win and where he wants to go from here. Check out some excerpts what he had to tell our friends from Fight Hub TV below…
Castano on how he feels after winning the WBO title:
“This is my time, I’m very happy for this fight. For me this is very strong. Patrick Teixeira is a good fighter, very strong. I know that this fight very difficult for me — this is the fight, the world title…It’s a dream.”
On what it’s like to win a world title with no crowd:
“This is my job. I’m working everyday, I’m training everyday in the gym. For me it’s the same but (for a world title fight it’s special, it’s different)…this is my time, my era, this is my night.”
On if he wants to unify with Jermell Charlo next:
“Yeah. Charlo, he’s a great fighter…I want this fight. My next fight I want fight with him…I’m waiting for this fight, I’m ready. I win this night, I’m world champion again and I’m waiting for the opportunity, you know?”
On when he would like that fight to take place:
“I don’t know. I am ready. I maybe rest one month and come in against at training camp. I have no problem. If Al Haymon tell me ‘hey, you fight in two months,’ no problem.”
On how he thinks he matches up with Charlo:
“With Charlo it’s like a coin-flip. 50/50. And one cross and maybe down, him or me, I don’t know. But I’m ready for him, I’m training everyday, and my dream is I have the four belts, undisputed.”
