Triller put a jolt into the boxing world recently when they bid $6 million to win the rights to Teofimo Lopez’s mandatory lightweight title defense against George Kambosos Jr, vastly out-bidding Matchroom Boxing (who came in second) and Lopez’s own promoters at Top Rank (who came in third).
On Friday, the 23-year-old Lopez posted a photo from the Triller office, where he had a bunch of his belts on a a ping pong table where there were also some pillows that probably cost a lot of money. Why a ping pong table? I dunno, man, new media ventures like that always like to kinda mix it up in the office, y’know, like, this is just a fun place to work, around here they do things a little differently.
“Triller said they wanted (the) most exciting fighter in the game to bring to their platform,” Lopez wrote. “They found the right one!”
It’s expected that Lopez (16-0, 12 KO) will defend his WBA, IBF, and WBO lightweight titles against IBF mandatory challenger Kambosos (19-0, 10 KO) this spring, headlining a Triller pay-per-view event. They’ve said they’re targeting a May date, but that’s TBA.
