Cecilia Braekhus: I Know I’m a Better Fighter Than Jessica McCaskill

Boxing Scene

A few days before the anticipated rematch between Jessica McCaskill and Cecilia Braekhus, the fighters took part in public training sessions in which they are preparing with passion to face each other again. This second episode between the 147 lbs. undisputed champion of the moment and the dethroned First Lady will take place on Saturday night at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas, under the promotion of Matchroom Boxing, and will be broadcasted by DAZN.

McCaskill, the IBF, WBA, WBO, IBO, WBC champion, made some pretty harsh statements in a virtual talk mediated by promoter Eddie Hearn.

One of the strongest phrases McCaskill stated was – “once someone shows that weakness, shows they are not in it and alludes to retirement, that shows that they are mentally out of the game”.

Kaskilla made this comment based on Braekhus’ statements after the August 2020 defeat about a possible retirement from boxing, implying that she would feel content and at peace in doing so, since she had given everything and at the same time had already achieved an important place within the history of female boxing.

While Braekhus shows a passive and focused spirit in her preparation, the woman from Chicago is showcasing enormous confidence in her words, having no doubt that she will win again and continue to be the absolute welterweight champion.

On the other hand, Braekhus felt the judges did not see the fight correctly the first time around:

“I know I’m a better fighter than Jessica. I had a bit of a bad day, but I feel I did what I had to do to retain my belts. But I wasn’t at home. I was on her home and she got the belts,” added Braekhus.
