Plant: I absolutely beat Canelo and become undisputed champ

IBF super middleweight titleholder Caleb Plant is sitting in an ideal spot right now, more or less, as he awaits a possible autumn fight with Canelo Alvarez, which could crown the first-ever undisputed champion in the 168-pound division.

Canelo (55-1-2, 37 KO) will first look to unify his WBC and WBA titles with the WBO belt held by Billy Joe Saunders (30-0, 14 KO) on May 8, but if Alvarez wins as most expect he will, Plant (21-0, 12 KO) says he’s 100 percent ready to go with Canelo in September.

“That’s what I want. That’s been my goal for a long time, is to be an undisputed (champion) and to be the first undisputed super middleweight (champion),” he said.

“I’m in this for legacy, this isn’t a money grab for me. If this was a money grab for me, I would’ve took this fight on five weeks’ notice with a four-week training camp like Callum did. This is not a money grab for me, I’m coming to win. Anyone who thinks any different is sadly mistaken and will see in September.”

And the 28-year-old Plant promises fans he won’t put in a forgettable effort, that he’s coming with full confidence he can shock the world.

“I absolutely beat Canelo and get my hand raised. I truly believe that in my heart of hearts. I’m going to beat Canelo Alvarez and I’m going to become the first undisputed super middleweight of all time,” he said.

“If you think I’m blowing smoke, if you think I’m gonna go from rope to rope and corner to corner getting beat up like Callum Smith did, or if you think I’m gonna shell up in front of him like Yildirim did and then quit on my stool after the third round, I promise you don’t know nothing about me.”
