Joshua focusing on self in training, team expects versatile Fury

With Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua reportedly having put pen to paper on a two-fight deal and a first fight expected in the summer, now it’s time for everyone to really dig into the two heavyweight titleholders and how they match up.

Fury (30-0-1, 21 KO) has already opened as a slight betting favorite, but nothing crazy, and few would argue against the idea that Joshua (24-1, 23 KO) is the bigger puncher of the two, but of course there’s just so much more to it than that. Fury has a pretty unique skill set and style, one that has to be extremely hard for heavyweights to find replicated in sparring.

Joshua trainer Joby Clayton, who works with head trainer Rob McCracken, tells Sky Sports it will be mostly about Joshua focusing on himself and what he does well:

“Fury is a very versatile athlete so I am personally focusing on AJ, and what he brings to the table to combat a whole host of techniques and tactics that he might face. AJ is doing some wonderful work, training with a wonderful energy. This is a special time in his career. I’m excited to see what the next few months hold.”

This will be one of the clear biggest fights of 2021 if not the biggest (or even the two biggest if both bouts get in this year), so obviously there’s going to be tons of talk. I think Fury is probably the clear favorite here among those who would consider themselves “serious” boxing fans, but it’s not like he’s unbeatable, either
