Whyte on Fury vs. Joshua: It’s Hard To Pick, It’s a 50-50 Fight

Boxing Scene

Heavyweight contender Dillian Whyte is only a few days away from his anticipated rematch with Alexander Povetkin, which takes place on March 27 in Gibraltar.

Back in August, Whyte was knocked out in five rounds by Povetkin.

He would quickly exercise an immediate rematch clause.

A victory over Povetkin would put him right back in the mix for a world title shot.

Earlier this month, a deal was reached between world champions Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury – to unify the IBF, WBO, WBC, IBO, WBA world titles.

Whyte will be among the many interested observers in the outcome.

Back in 2015, Joshua knocked Whyte out in seven rounds.

Whyte views Fury-Joshua as a 50-50 fight and can’t seem to pick a winner.

“This is heavyweight boxing man. Who would’ve said Hasim Rahman or Oliver McCall would have knocked out Lennox Lewis? It’s heavyweight boxing. Wladimir Klitschko lost to Ross Puritty, no one even knows that guy. There’s a case for both guys winning this fight, I think. Both guys showed a lot of versatility in their fights.,” Whyte told the Ak & Barak show on DAZN.

“[The] two fights [Joshua had] with Ruiz and [the] two fights [Joshua had] with Wilder, they’re the same guys but they’re different styles and different ways of getting the victory. Joshua had a loss against Ruiz, Fury had a draw against Wilder. Then Fury came off the back foot, was aggressive and knocked Wilder out. And Joshua came off the front foot, got on the back foot and got a points decision against Andy Ruiz.

“You see what I’m saying? It’s hard, only true fans of each guy will say, ‘This guy’s gonna win.’ It’s very hard, I don’t think no boxing purist would say, ‘This guys gonna win because of this.’ The guys are showing different styles and different character in their game and stuff, so it’s very difficult to say who’s gonna win. It’s hard to pick, in my opinion it’s a 50-50 fight.”
