Navarrete-Diaz, more: Boxing TV schedule for April 20-24

Fighting

FS1, 8:00 pm ET, Frank Martin vs Jerry Perez, Marcus Browne vs Denis Grachev. PBC basically chucked this card into existence by all but pretending it’s not happening, same as we’ve seen them do with other FS1 cards. They’re clearly not very proud of what they’re offering to the point they don’t even seem to want people to watch. Martin-Perez is a matchup of unbeaten but unknown lightweights. Browne-Grachev is an abomination of a matchup. Since PBC seem so disinterested in whether anyone pays attention to these shows, I might not. I’ll decide on the day of the fights. BLH may have live coverage.

Twitch, 6:00 pm ET, Ring City USA prelims. More on the lineup here. BLH will have live coverage.

NBCSN and Twitch, 9:00 pm ET, Jermaine Franklin vs Stephan Shaw, Jelena Mrdjenovich vs Erika Cruz Hernandez. Ring City USA is back, this time from West Point, NY, for what should be a unique atmosphere. Being honest, I’m not near as high on this card as I have been on other Ring City shows, but as far as matchup, the main event is still what the series promised: Fighters matched tough. Franklin and Shaw are both American heavyweight hopefuls, whatever that means to you. Mrdjenovich is defending her featherweight belt and could be looking to set up unification with Amanda Serrano. BLH will have live coverage.

DAZN, 2:00 pm ET, Sandor Martin vs Kay Prosper, Andoni Gago vs Gavin McDonnell. Matchroom Spain is back, two European title fights here at 140 and 126. As of now, Sergio Garcia (European champ at 154) is scheduled for a TBA non-title fight, and Kerman Lejarraga is set to face Jez Smith as he tries to rehab his career. BLH may have live coverage.

YouTube, 11:30 pm ET, Kenshiro Teraji vs Tetsuya Hisada. We’ll adjust this if the time is wrong, but based on the fight poster, this is airing as a matinee in Japan starting at 12:30 pm on April 24, which is 11:30 pm ET on April 23 in the US. But whatever the start time winds up being, we’ll be here. It’s free to stream legally on YouTube and Teraji is arguably the best 108 lb fighter in the world, defending his WBC belt against the game vet Hisada. BLH will have live coverage.

BT Sport (UK), 1:00 pm ET, Denzel Bentley vs Felix Cash, Callum Johnson vs Emil Markic. Once again doesn’t look there will be U.S. coverage for this one, not on the ESPN+ schedule as of now and no FITE PPV option or anything. Bentley-Cash is a great domestic matchup at 160 for the British and Commonwealth titles, and Johnson is getting back in action at 175, where he’s a contender. Anthony Yarde is also in action. If there comes a way to watch legally in the States, we will be here. I really hope there is, because I genuinely want to see Bentley-Cash live, it’s a good fight. (Even if we have to wind up going to, uh, Other Means, I will probably be here for coverage, but with that I can’t make any guarantees.) BLH may have live coverage.

ESPN+, 6:00 pm ET, Navarrete vs Diaz prelims. The normal prospect showcase fights and what have you. BLH will have live coverage.

FITE PPV, 7:00 pm ET, Jose Felix Jr vs Adalberto Borquez.

ESPN and ESPN+, 10:00 pm ET, Emanuel Navarrete vs Christopher Diaz, Edgar Berlanga vs Demond Nicholson. Navarrete defends his WBO featherweight title against Diaz, whose losses have come to Masayuki Ito in a 130 lb title fight, and to Shakur Stevenson when Diaz moved down to 126 looking for a new spark. Diaz is a decent fighter, but this isn’t the most incredible world title matchup by any means. Berlanga looks to keep his first round KO streak running — or not, at some point it’s going to be more beneficial long term to actually get some rounds in. Nicholson is a veteran who’s been around but is plenty hurt-able and has been stopped twice. Odds would seem decent Berlanga extends the run. BLH will have live coverage.
