Eddie Hearn, who works with Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, is not ruling out the possibility of the Mexican superstar making a future return to the light heavyweight division.
Canelo made a two weight jump to 175-pounds in 2019, when he knocked out Sergey Kovalev for the WBO world title.
Afterwards, he vacated the belt and moved down to super middleweight.
Since moving down to 168, he’s defeated Callum Smith and Billy Joe Saunders to unify the WBC, WBO, WBA world titles.
Between December and May, Canelo saw action three times and intends to stay very busy in the future.
Plans are in motion for Canelo to face IBF champion Caleb Plant in a full division unification in the month of September.
If he overcomes Plant, then Canelo will look either defend his undisputed crown or hunt for more gold.
And two possible big fight options are found at light heavyweight – with WBA champion Dmityr Bivol and WBC, IBF champion Artur Beterbiev.
Bivol has mentioned the scenario of moving down to 168 to face Canelo. And Beterbiev has mentioned his willingness to get Canelo in the ring.
Hearn indicates that Canelo has no problem with facing either Beterbiev or Bivol.
“Canelo Alvarez is the absolute pound-for-pound king. He has the right to fight whoever he wants. But, the good news is, he is fighting champion after champion after champion,” Hearn told Little Giant Boxing.
“So you don’t have to worry about Saul, he’ll fight anyone. Maybe after this he will go to light heavyweight and he may fight Beterbiev and he might fight Bivol. He doesn’t care.”
