A case of Covid has been detected in Tyson Fury’s camp, but the Deontay Wilder fight, at present, is still on

CONCERNS over an outbreak of coronavirus in Tyson Fury’s camp have swept over the build up to his July 24 heavyweight clash with Deontay Wilder at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

The British heavyweight is coming towards the end of a long stint training in the US for this fight but today ESPN reports that Covid-19 has been detected within his camp.

Promoter Top Rank, who are organising the event, currently say the fight is still on. “We continue to monitor the health status of Tyson and his team and the status of the event has not changed to date,” Top Rank said in a statement.

Fury has had a long stretch of inactivity now. He last boxed in February of last year, when he stopped Wilder in seven rounds in their rematch and established himself as the world leading heavyweight. A mooted fight in December did not take place and after going through an arbitration a third fight with Wilder was finally inked for later this month. This Covid case threatens to put Fury’s on hold for even longer.

More will be revealed in the coming days as the health status of Fury and his camp continues to be monitored.
