They say good things never last, and this is especially true of things too good to be true.
In the case of DAZN’s introductory £1.99 price, consistent since the app launched in December, it was always a matter of time before subscribers came to learn the true price of watching Matchroom Boxing events this year and beyond. Well, that price, announced today, will now be £7.99 a month, which comes into effect for existing customers from September 30.
As per their press release, DAZN has recently expanded its sports rights offering for DAZN subscribers with the addition of at least 16 Matchroom Boxing UK fight nights a year. As well as new live sport, DAZN Originals programming and exclusive features will also be available on DAZN and there is a promise to expand their programming, production standards and streaming quality.
Whether all this, paired with their current offering, is enough to warrant the price hike remains to be seen. But, in the end, as with most calculated risks of this nature, it will be decided by the number of existing subscribers who jumped on the introductory offer back in December and now, despite being asked for more of their money, choose to stick around.
