The scores were 95-95 for the draw, 97-93 and 97-93 to Carroll.
The rounds were close in the early going. Carroll was doing a lot of body work, while Vences was looking for counters. Vences began to sit down on his punches a lot more in the third.
Vences was using his jab to control the distance in the fourth. Carroll was trying to catch Vences when he got in close. The action was still close in the fifth and sixth. Vences seemed to have the edge with his boxing ability. The action got more animated in the seventh, as they traded on the inside and Carroll was rallying.
Vences was connected more often with clean shots in the eight. For some reason, before the start of the ninth, the ringside officials were discussing the possibility of stopping the fight as Carroll had some issues with his vision. Once it restarted, Carroll went right after Vences and was putting his punches together and taking the fight to his opponent to change the tide. Carroll continued to make it close in the tenth, as he upped the tempo and Vences was boxing to the final bell.
