Chris Eubank Jr. has had his next fight date confirmed.

The Brighton middleweight suffered disappointment earlier this month after his opponent for a fight at the SSE Arena in Wembley, London, was pulled out on the day by the British Boxing Board of Control.

Eubank Jr. had been set to face Anatoli Muratov, exclusively live on Sky Sports, last weekend, but the German was withdrawn by the Board on medical grounds.

It was believed that the 32-year-old would fight before the month was out and that news has now been set in stone after it was revealed that he will be in action on October 16.

The British star faces Wanik Awdijan, who has 28 victories with just one defeat, on a packed Sky Sports-aired bill at Utilita Arena in Newcastle, promoted by Boxxer and in association with Wasserman Boxing.

“It was always the plan to get straight back out,” said Eubank Jr., who has a ring record of 30-2 with 22 quick finishes. “The cancellation was completely unexpected, it’s a rare situation, it was frustrating, but I get it –– some things are out of everybody’s control. Now, I’m looking forward to getting back in the ring and fighting in Newcastle.”

Awdijan was born in Armenia, has 11 stoppages on his record and is 26 years old. He was last in action on July 30, winning on points, and had previously stopped Krisztian Santa inside a round back in May.

Eubank Jr. has been added to the bill in the North East which is already stacked with talent and topped by ‘Silent Assassin’ Savannah Marshall’s defence of her WBO middleweight world title against Lolita Muzeya.

Heavyweight Hughie Fury is back and takes on Christian Hammer over 12 rounds, while former WBA Inter-Continental super-lightweight champion Lewis Ritson meets Henry Lundy over eight and there is a tasty domestic dust-up in the middleweight division between Bradley Rea, who is undefeated in 10 fights, and London’s Jez Smith.

Georgia O’Connor and Mark Dickinson will make their professional debuts on the bill and local girl April Hunter is joined by Steve Robinson and Michael Webster.
