All three judges scored the fight 100-90.
Santa Cruz was returning for the first time since his brutal knockout at the hands of Gervonta Davis in October of 2020.
Santa Cruz was picking up the pace once the second round came about, with Carbajal willing to engage him in a toe to toe fight. In the third, Santa Cruz was landing damaging shots to the head and body.
It was toe to toe trading in the fourth and fifth, with Santa Cruz being more accurate. During the fifth and sixth, there were timeouts to check on the damaged right eye of Santa Cruz from head clashes. Carbajal also seemed to injure his left shoulder and wasn’t throwing his left hand much.
The remainder of the fight saw Santa Cruz outworking and outlanding Carbajal until the final bell.
