Cosmopolitan, Las Vegas – In a WBA super featherweight eliminator, Hector Garcia (15-0, 10 KOs) took the fight on late notice and pulled off a stunner, as he dropped and outworked Chris Colbert (16-1, 6 KOs) over twelve rounds to secure a dominant twelve round unanimous decision. The scores were 118-109, 119-108 and 119-107.
Garcia was bringing the fight to Colbert at the start of the first round. He was doing most of the work, but not landing the bulk of his shots. They were trading punches to start off the second. Garcia was doing a lot of the work, while Colbert was hanging back and waiting to land counter combinations, which were landing as well.
Colbert unloaded with punches at the start of the third. He was landing very quick, accurate shots on Garcia during the round. The quick counters of Colbert were landing in the fourth. Garcia was game looking to fight toe to toe, with Colbert willing to engage with him. Garcia rallied in the final minute and seemed to stun Colbert with hard head shots.
Garcia was outworking Colbert during the fifth with a lot of punches flying. Garcia went right after Colbert at the start of the sixth. He was trying to overwhelm Colbert with hard shots to the head and body. During the seventh, a big left from Garcia sent Colbert down for the first time in his career. Garcia went right after him with more punches. Colbert was getting banged up, but managed to reach the bell.
Garcia was unloading with punches in the eight. Colbert was holding and doing his best to survive the onslaught. During the ninth, Colbert was starting to connect more often on Garcia, who seemed to be a bit tired. Colbert continued to rally at the start of the tenth. Garcia seemed to be tiring, but he continued to outwork Colbert as the round played out. In the eleventh, Garcia chased after Colbert for most of the round.
In the twelfth, Colbert was mostly on his feet and moving, but wasn’t doing punching at all. Garcia was chasing after him and working for the entire round.
