AT&T Stadium, Arlington, Texas – A crossroads lightweight clash saw Jose Valenzuela (12-0, 8 KOs) make a big statement with a crushing first round stoppage of former world champion Francisco Vargas (27-4-2, 19 KOs). (photos by Ryan Hafey)
The fight barely got off the ground, before Valenzuela landed a tremendous left hook dropped Vargas down hard on his back in the first round. The fight was quickly waved off as Vargas was laying there and not really attempting to get back to his feet.
Valenzuela, who is trained by Jose Benavidez Sr., put the entire 135-pound division on notice with the win.
