Junior middleweight contender Tim Tszyu underwent surgery on both his hands before he flies out to the United States to sit ringside for next Saturday’s undisputed rematch clash between world champions Jermell Charlo and Brian Castano.
The Showtime televised fight takes place at the Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson. They fought to a twelve round split draw in July of 2021.
Tszyu is the mandatory challenger under the WBO and hopes to face the winner of the upcoming contest.
The young boxer’s team told reporters in Australia that he had a clean-out of both sets of knuckles to ensure he is 100% in top form for his next fight.
“Tim has been fighting with sore hands for the last few fights, so given the extended time frame we have awaiting the Castano versus Charlo rematch it was prudent to have the problem addressed,” Tszyu’s manager Glen Jennings said via The Courier Mail.
“We had the corrective surgery to ensure Tim’s hands are ready for the biggest fight of his life. Our team doctor, Dr Bill Anseline, consulted with renowned hand surgeon Dr Damien Ryan who was extremely happy with the surgical outcome and assured Tim that he would be ready for his world title fight with two good hands ready to go.”
Tszyu (21-0, 15 KOs) made his United States debut back in March, when he was forced to get off the floor to power his way to a twelve round unanimous decision win over Olympian Terrell Gausha.
The unbeaten Australian boxer has no issue with facing the Charlo-Castano winner in the United States but would love to get them over to large venue in Australia.
