WBA cruiserweight king Ryad Merhy (30-1) could be heading up to higher ground. The boxer revealed on social media that he is contemplating a move to bridgerweight due to problems making the division’s weight limit of 200-pounds.
The World Boxing Council (WBC) formed the bridgerweight class, which its between cruiser and heavyweight.
However, the boxer’s promoter, Alain Vanackere ,says they are still looking for a showdown against WBA ‘super’ champ Arsen Goulamirian (26-0) – which was recently ordered the WBA to consolidate their cruiserweight belts.
There’s also been a fight announced against between Merhy and WBC cruiserweight Ilunga Makabu, for September 30 in Kinshasa (Congo), but that is apparently now off.

The EBU has now set the date of September 6 as the deadline for the rematch between Danish boxer Enock Poulsen (12-0) and Frenchman Franck Petitjean (23-6-2).
Poulsen won a unanimous decision when they fought back in April but the EBU ordered an immediate rematch mainly due to paragraph 16:9, which states that if a boxer injures himself he loses by TKO – in this case the Dane dislocated his shoulder but received some quick treatment from his cornermen who put the shoulder back in place and the fight was on again after a short break.
