White: Mayweather return still “very possible”

UFC boss Dana White says that the ship hasn’t sailed on him possibly putting together some type of event with retired former pound-for-pound and dollar-for-dollar boxing king Floyd Mayweather.

“Floyd and I still have dialogue and go back-and-forth. We’re still interested on both sides,” White told TMZ. “[It’s] very possible.”

White denied that the idea would be for Mayweather to rematch Conor McGregor, stressing that, officially, McGregor is currently retired from fighting. Of course, Mayweather is, too, but White is stressing things with McGregor because otherwise he would have to give McGregor money, so, y’know.

Personally I’m not counting out Mayweather-McGregor 2, because it made everyone a shit ton (that’s an official measurement) of money the first time around, and while it definitely wouldn’t do that level of business for a rematch, it would still likely completely blow away any other combat sports event that can possibly be put together right now.

Mayweather, now 43 and turning 44 next February, hasn’t officially fought since that 2017 bout with McGregor, though he did go to Japan for an exhibition with kickboxing star Tenshin Nasukawa in Dec. 2018, and has said he’d potentially be interested in more exhibitions, at the very least, which may kick into higher gear if the Mike Tyson-Roy Jones Jr PPV in September does well financially, first of all, and second of all doesn’t turn into a complete disaster that leaves people pissed off after they spent their money.
