Youtube star Logan Paul has finally acknowledged that his exhibition match with Floyd Mayweather has been officially postponed.
The pay-per-view event was scheduled for February 20th, with the location, rules and undercard never being revealed by the organizers.
Paul insists the fight will still go forward at a late date. He says the decision to postpone was due to ‘business complications’.
“The Mayweather fight is pushed [back] which I am completely OK with. The fight’s still happening [but] we want to have a packed arena somewhere and then the business side of things, we have to iron them out,” Paul said.
“[Mayweather’s] got a lot of people on his team, [his adviser] Al Haymon got involved, if you know boxing, you know what that means for getting an actual deal done and figuring out a venue. I need as much practice, training, sparring under my belt against this guy. With every day that goes past I get better and he gets older.”
Additionally, Paul rejected the idea that his fight was pushed back due to a lack of interest from the public.
“The fight is still happening, so easy with the rumors that there’s no interest. This fight broke every single combat sports record for pre-sale pay-per-view numbers – shattered them,” Paul said.
Fanmio, the app which is financially backing the event, issued a statement on the matter.
“After an absolutely tremendous response to the fight announcement, we’re hoping to announce a new date very soon along with some new exciting details.”
The 43-year-old Mayweather retired from boxing in August of 2017, with a prefect record of 50-0 – after stopping UFC star Conor McGregor in ten rounds. He came back in December 2018, in an exhibition, and demolished kickboxing star Tenshin Nasukawa in one round in Tokyo.
Paul made his pro debut in 2019, with a controversial split decision loss to Youtube rival KSI.
