Danielito Zorrilla Back Home, Neurological Tests Went Well

Boxing Scene

Junior welterweight prospect Danielito Zorrilla of Puerto Rico was released on Friday morning from a medical facility after being taken there to be evaluated for a punch that he took to the back of the head in a fight with Kazakh Ruslan Madiyev, whom he beat by split decision.

The contest took place on the televised portion of the Ring City USA card, which took place on Thursday night outside the Félix Pagán Pintor gym in Guaynabo.

Zorrilla, who improved to 15-0 with 11 knockouts, clinched the World Boxing Organization (WBO) NABO regional title at 140 pounds.

The contest was called off in the eight round, and went to the scorecards, when Zorrilla was unable to continue after getting clipped by an accidental foul – when he got hit to the back of the head.

“Thank God he’s stable. He is aware, everything is in order. All the results of the neurological tests were negative,” Bryan Pérez, executive director of Miguel Cotto Promotions, told Antolin Rios.

“There was no bleeding. What we can say is that because of the punches he had a small contusion. He will be under observation, he was prescribed some medications and then he will have a medical (follow-up) appointment.”

Pérez said that although Zorrilla, 27, was discharged, he will be under observation for a period of 72 hours. He will then be evaluated by a neurologist, Dr. Luis Forastieri.

Zorrilla himself used social media to send a message to his fans.

“I’m already home, following the protocols that the doctor gave us. Thank you all for your concern and love. In all, I am very happy once again, to have the privilege and the health to hold my children in my arms again,” said Zorrilla.

“I will discuss the details of the fight, when I analyze it well, since I am a little confused and do not remember much clearly.”
