Top super featherweight prospect O’Shaquie Foster appears to have a fight on his hands, though it won’t take place in a ring. Chris Mannix reports that promoter Lou DiBella has filed suit against the 27-year-old “alleging breach of contract and seeking damages”
Per Mannix, Foster (18-2, 11 KO) “wants out of a promotional agreement that still has years remaining” on the basis that DiBella failed to promote the contractually mandated three fights per year. Foster fought just once in 2020, overpowering durable veteran Miguel Roman in a November Ring City main event.
There were, of course, certain virus-related extenuating circumstances in 2020 that should provide plenty of ammo for DiBella.
Foster presently sits at #3 in the WBC 130-pound rankings behind Shakur Stevenson and Miguel Berchelt. As Stevenson appears to be chasing a WBO title shot and Berchelt is coming off a destructive loss to reigning champ Oscar Valdez, Foster could well be in line for a crack at the belt before long. Let’s hope he and DiBella manage to work this out amicably.
