Hearn: Fury-Joshua should be finalized next week, offers on table

Tyson Fury has expressed some enthusiasm about a fight with Anthony Joshua finally getting done, and Joshua has also openly talked about it, which is a bit more rare, and today during the Benn-Vargas card in London (live coverage here), Matchroom promoter Eddie Hearn gave another update on where the negotiations stand.

“It was good to hear some positivity from Tyson and the team, because they know we’re very close,” Hearn said. “Tomorrow both guys will be presented with the options for the fight in the summer. You heard from Anthony Joshua on social media as well, and he doesn’t talk that much about fights coming up. He talks when things are close. You can feel the excitement building.

“We’re in a great place, we’ve got several offers on the table. They’ll be presented to the fighters tomorrow. I’m quietly confident. And it was nice to see Tyson Fury post with a little bit of enthusiasm, because I guess he feels we’re close now as well. The teams will get together. I’m going to try to pop out and see Bob Arum on Tuesday before Andrade-Williams next week. We’re nearly there. I don’t want to get too excited, because I’ve been telling you it’s gonna be two weeks for about six weeks, but we’ve worked really, really hard to get this done, and we don’t want to give in.”

Hearn added, “Fingers crossed, it won’t be long,” and noted that both sides seem to truly want to get this done and a date and location settled.

“I think both guys are desperate to get moving. You’ve seen Tyson Fury running the clock down, and AJ wants to know the date and work toward the start of his camp. This is the biggest fight in boxing. This is one of the biggest fights of all time. For me, this is the sporting event of 2021. One lucky site’s going to get some good news next week, and the whole world will stop to watch this fight.”
