Fury: Saunders is a Different Breed, Canelo Has Never Fought a Gypsy!

WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury has continued to confidently back Billy Joe Saunders in the biggest fight of his career.

Fury cautions that Fury is a different breed of animal to anything that his upcoming opponent, Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez, has ever come across – ahead of their unification showdown next month.

The highly-anticipated event takes place at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas on Saturday, May 8, and will be broadcast worldwide on DAZN.

The main event will see Saunders (30-0, 14 KOs) stake the WBO super middleweight title in the fight of his life when he attempts to capture the WBC and WBA championships from the once-beaten Canelo (55-1-2, 37 KOs). The winner will be one belt short of becoming the undisputed champion of the weight class.

Canelo has unbeaten since losing a twelve round decision to Floyd Mayweather in 2013 – in a fight which took place at a catch-weight of 150-pounds.

Saunders is a tremendous underdog in the bout – after Canelo completely dominated the competition at 168-pounds with one-sided victories over Callum Smith and Avni Yildirim.

Fury knows what it’s like to be the underdog and he believes his close friend will upset the odds,

“Billy Joe Saunders is 100% mentally in the right place. He knows what he has to do and he will do it. He will rise up top and claim greatness,” Fury stated.

“I was written off many times in the past and have always come through. We are cut from the same cloth and are the same breed of animals.

“Canelo has fought them all but never a fighting Gypsy. We are a different breed of animal to anything he has come across before. He will have world domination.”
