WBA “regular” light heavyweight champion Jean Pascal is in deep training for his rematch with Badou Jack.
Pascal (35-6-1, 20 KOs) vs. Jack (23-3-3, 13 KOs) will be featured as the Showtime Pay-Per-View co-feature to Floyd Mayweather’s exhibition fight with Youtube star Logan Paul.
The event takes place on June 6 at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, Florida.
In his last fight, in December of 2019, Pascal defeated Jack by split decision in an action-fight where both boxers hit the deck.
Pascal, a veteran in the sport, is not offended by his co-feature position to an exhibition involving a social media star.
Some have called the main event a circus act, because the 44-year-old Mayweather, 50-0 as a pro, is a tremendous favorite compared to Paul, who is much younger and physically much bigger, but 0-1 as a pro.
Pascal recently sparred with Paul and has a newfound respect for his desire to box.
“First of all, it’s not a circus because any boxer who trains to get into a ring deserves our respect. Boxing is a very difficult sport. It’s like going to war. You never know what’s going to happen and you never know if you’re going to come back,” Pascal explained to Radio Canada.
“The reason Logan Paul has all my respect is that right now he’s training with me in Puerto Rico. He moved his training camp to Puerto Rico. I did sparring with him and I can tell you that he impressed me. For a beginner he is very good. He is very agile. He is versatile.”
“[Mayweather’s card] is the biggest boxing platform at the moment. I am very proud and honored to be a part of it. Yes, people know Jean Pascal, but they know Floyd Mayweather even more. Non-boxing fans know Logan Paul a lot more. So, the event will have a new audience watching boxing.”
