UPDATE (12:53 pm ET): Lance Pugmire of The Athletic says he spoke with Fury promoter Bob Arum, who said, “As far as I know, (Fury) doesn’t have it.” This does open up the chance that Fury and maybe enough people who don’t have it can isolate away from any others, but we’ll see.
Yet again, Tyson Fury’s next fight will be delayed, as Mike Coppinger reports at ESPN that a COVID-19 “outbreak” in Fury’s training camp is likely going to postpone the trilogy fight with Deontay Wilder from July 24 until September.
Fury (30-0-1, 22 KO) and Wilder (42-1-1, 41 KO) are set to fight for Fury’s WBC title and the LINEAL!!!! belt and the magazine belt and all that, it’s a big fight and was the clear biggest fight of July, which now it won’t be.
If you’re wondering how legit this is, keep in mind this is a joint ESPN/FOX pay-per-view event with Top Rank, of course, heavily involved, and if it’s being reported at ESPN — Top Rank’s partners — before an official announcement, it’s probable the sources are very good here.
As much as this stinks and takes a big fight off the July calendar, it does open up everyone to watch that night’s session of Olympic boxing live. So, I mean, there’s that?
