Michael Conlan continues his progression with a clear win over TJ Doheny

MICHAEL CONLAN took a clear unanimous decision over TJ Doheny, defeating him at Falls Park in Belfast on Friday (August 6).

He took the fight 119-108 for Victor Loughlin and 116-11 for both Steve Gray and Ian John-Lewis. Conlan clubbed Doheny to a knee in the fifth round and continued his progression with the 16th win of his career.

Made at a catchweight between super-bantam and feather (Conlan weighed 124¼lbs and Doheny 123½lbs), Conlan will have options in both divisions. The WBO super-bantamweight belt is one of his targets. That is one of the straps that Brandon Figueroa and Stephen Fulton will contest in American on September 11.

“This is a 126lbs [win]. I can definitely fluctuate between both, but my eyes are on that 122lb fight if that opportunity is still there with the WBO,” he told the BBC. “If it’s there before the end of the year, I’m happy to take it.

“There’s load of opportunities in both divisions and I’m happy to have the options now.”
