Haye to face Fournier on Sept. 11 Triller card, PPV lineup set

Fighting

David Haye is the latest name set for Triller’s Sept. 11 pay-per-view from Los Angeles, as the former cruiserweight champion and secondary heavyweight titlist will face Joe Fournier in an eight-round heavyweight bout.

Haye, now 40, hasn’t fought since the second of his back-to-back losses to Tony Bellew in May 2018. The 38-year-old Fournier is some type “entrepreneur” — not important enough that I know what he actually does just by reputation, and not important enough to me now to look it up — who has eight nine pro boxing bouts that officially counted and all, though none of them were against anyone near the same galaxy as even an aged David Haye.

Most recently, Fournier was part of the Jake Paul-Ben Askren show, punching a musician named “Reykon” for two rounds until it was mercifully stopped. He had campaigned at least a little bit for a fight with Jake Paul, but he’s not really famous enough to be on Paul’s radar.

This could very well be an exhibition, as Fournier and Haye are known to be friendly, with Fournier part of the epic Haye vs Arnold Gjergjaj event back in 2016. Or maybe they had or will fake a falling out and shove each other at pressers and what have you, who knows?

Along with Oscar De La Hoya coming back at 48 to face 44-year-old MMA fighter Vitor Belfort, plus 46-year-old MMA fighters Anderson Silva and Tito Ortiz boxing one another, and now this, the show will also feature an actual boxing match that’s at least a little bit relevant to what the real sport actually is right now, with Andy Vences (23-2-1, 12 KO) taking on Jono Carroll (19-2-1, 5 KO) in a 130 lb matchup.
