The biggest fight of Andres Cortes (14-0) young career is just days away.
On Saturday he will face former world title challenger Genesis Servania (34-2) in a bout scheduled for 8 rounds in a Top Rank promoted event in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The Joshua Franco-Andrew Moloney trilogy battle will serve as the ESPN televised main event.
The 24-year-old Las Vegas native is coming off of a May unanimous decision victory over Eduardo Garza and believes this is the perfect time for a step up fight.
“I am ready. I feel that this fight came at the perfect time. He is a well respected and good fighter. I just have to go out there and show what I can do,” Cortes told BoxingScene.com after a recent training session.
Cortes’ last few fights have taken place at the lightweight limit but this fight will be contested at the 130 pound super featherweight limit. While he believes that he is more powerful at the lower weight but is open to fighting in both weight divisions.
“I feel more comfortable at 130 but I fight in 2 divisions. Servania is at 130 and he is giving me the opportunity. Many fighters don’t want to fight me right now but we are going to give it all in this fight,” Cortes stated.
Servania’s only 2 losses have came against unbeaten fighters Oscar Valdez and Carlos Castro. He represents a significant step up in class for Cortes. A victory over the Filipino could be a springboard for Cortes career.
Cortes not only plans on winning but winning emphatically.
“A win over Servania will do a lot for my career. He has fought on television and is known as a good fighter. The win will raise me up a level when I knock him out. I believe that I will knock him out around round 5,” said Cortes.
