Crawford: After Porter, The Market Will Be Bigger For Me To Fight a Bigger Name

Boxing Scene

WBO welterweight champion Terence Crawford is only a few days away from his scheduled defense with former two-time beltholder Shawn Porter.

Their ESPN+ pay-per-view fight takes place on Saturday night at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Crawford has not received a lot of credit for his recent runs of wins, but that doesn’t bother him.

“No [it doesn’t]. it just tells of how dominant I am to go into the ring and do what I’ve been doing thus far, in each division. Of course, they are going to say that I’m not fighting anybody,’ Crawford told Sky Sports.

“I can solidify my greatness on my own just by fighting the people that I am able to fight, like Porter. After this is over I will look for other fighters just like him. I feel like, after Porter, the market will be bigger for me to fight a bigger name. Everything will work out to the best of my ability.”

Should Crawford win, there are plenty of options for him.

The unbeaten champion will become a promotional free agent in the aftermath of this fight.

Crawford wants the biggest fights out there and he wants to capture more world titles.

“You’ve got to have a fire in you,” Crawford said. “Some fighters get lazy and comfortable – they become happy with where they are at. Others just want more. I am one of those fighters who isn’t satisfied yet.

“A lot of people are born with the urge to win everything. That’s me. Some people are born with more heart. You can’t teach heart. You can’t teach somebody to take punches, to do this or that. Some people are just born with natural ability and God-gifted skills. I believe that I’m one of them. I already knew where I was heading, where I wanted to be, when I was a little kid.”
