Arguably the best amateur out of Puerto Rico, 2020 Olympic Trials winner Omar Rosario, has signed with Top Rank ahead of his professional debut this Friday.

Via Top Rank’s press release:

“My dream has always been to be promoted by Top Rank, and I am excited that my dreams are coming true,” Rosario said. “I worked extremely hard to get here, and this is a testament to the hard work we do in and out of the ring. I am ready to conquer the boxing world and become Puerto Rico’s next superstar.”

Said Tim VanNewhouse, Rosario’s manager, “Omar is an outstanding talent and I’m happy I could fulfill his expectations of aligning him with Top Rank. Although I had big Olympic hopes for him, I know he is going to have a promising future in the pros.”

Considered Puerto Rico’s best hope for Olympic gold before the ongoing pandemic shoved the Games back a year, the Rosario signed with Split-T management alongside fellow Trials winner Javier Martinez in May. He fights in Kissimmee, Florida this Friday as part of a Telemundo card headlined by Ricardo Espinoza vs. Brandon Valdes.

Rosario is Top Rank’s second noteworthy amateur signing in recent days, as they called up Team USA veteran Duke Ragan last week. He also joins another young Puerto Rican standout in 17-yaer-old Xander Zayas, who’s 4-0 since signing last year and returns to action in September.
