Taylor looking to stage Ramirez unification

Unified junior welterweight champion Josh Taylor is actively looking to settle things at 140, asking for an undisputed showdown with fellow unified titleholder Jose Ramirez, who won a close decision over Viktor Postol this past weekend. Ramirez was then ordered to defend his WBO title against Jack Catterall, but an undisputed title unification could take priority should Taylor beat Apinun Khongsong on September 26.

Speaking to ESPN about his desire to have an opportunity to become undisputed champion, Taylor said:

“It’s a massive fight for boxing given I get through my next fight in three weeks’ time. In my opinion it’s the biggest fight in boxing outside of the heavyweights Tyson Fury, Deontay Wilder and Anthony Joshua, and for all four world titles.”

Taylor would continue by saying he believes Ramirez was fortunate to get a decision win over Postol and that he wasn’t at all impressed by Ramirez’s performance in that outing. In fact, Taylor says he saw a lot of holes in Ramirez’s game that he plans to exploit, but until then he has to focus on the task at hand.
