De La Hoya says Canelo has shown complacency after latest win

During this conversation with Fight Hub TV, Golden Boy promoter Oscar De La Hoya shares some thoughts on what he made of Canelo Alvarez’s latest performance while going on to talk about Ryan Garcia’s fight tomorrow against Luke Campbell. Check out some excerpts below…

De La Hoya on Canelo’s performance against Callum Smith:

“He did great. He did wonderful. I obviously would’ve love for him to throw more combinations. He could’ve stopped him if he wanted to. I think he did phenomenal, I think he did a wonderful job, but he needs more work when it comes to letting his punches loose. I think he’s very complacent right now. He’s in a place where he’s like ‘Ok, I’m gonna throw one punch, a power shot, two shots,’ but at the same time you have to make sure the fans are getting a spectacle. You have to go out there, kind of like a Ryan Garcia, go out there and you’re exciting. But other than that he did phenomenal.”

On still planning to do business with Canelo going forward:

“Well I mean, look, he’s a free agent right now and so obviously it’s all about the money. So I’m very positive that we can present to him a very lucrative deal in the near future that will allow him to once again allow him to fight under the Golden Boy banner.”

On how confident he is Ryan Garcia will beat Luke Campbell in impressive fashion:

“I think the fact that Ryan Garcia is a hard worker, and he has the ‘it’ factor. That’s just basically it. He has the ‘it factor’, he’s a fighter who has talent, he has a chin, he has speed, he has the combinations, a great corner, but he has that ‘it’ factor and that’s what makes the difference.”
