Estrada aims to unify titles before moving up in weight

Fresh off her win over Anabel Ortiz on March 20, WBA world champion Seniesa Estrada talks to RingTV about her desire to stay at 105lbs in order to capture more world title belts before she eventually pursues the titleholders a division above. Of course Estrada says she’s been trying to land a fight against 108lb titleholder Yesenia Gomez for some time now, but has largely been pushed off thus far.

“Her promoter [Pepe Gomez] keeps telling us to wait and wait,” Estrada laughed. “We were supposed to fight her after the Ortiz fight but now we’re being told maybe at the end of the year.”

Estrada says she’s not going to be deterred by that though, and says she’ll instead try her best to unify titles against either Tenkai Tsunami or Tina Rupprecht in the interim, who hold the WBO and WBC belts, respectively. Estrada’s ultimate goal is to try to become undisputed champion at 105 before moving up in weight if at all possible but she’ll certainly look to capitalize on any compelling opportunities as they present themselves.

Through 20 professional fights Estrada, 28, remains unbeaten and has established herself as a formidable opponent for anyone around her weight class. And until she reaches her goals, she just expects to keep plugging away and winning.
