Eddie Hearn, promoter for Anthony Joshua, has reacted to the recent claims by Top Rank’s CEO Bob Arum, who promotes Tyson Fury.
For the last few weeks, Hearn and Arum have been working to finalize the details for a full division unification between heavyweight champions Joshua and Fury.
Hearn is in the process of securing a long form binding agreement for a $150 million site fee deal from Saudi Arabia.
In several interviews conducted this week, Arum made it clear that Fury was tired of waiting for the site fee agreement to be finalized and he was moving forward with a different fight.
Arum stated to The Telegraph that Fury-Joshua was “dead in the water” for July and August.
Hearn rejected Arum’s position on the matter and stays firm in his belief that everything will be wrapped up shortly.
The British promoter still expects the contest to land in late July or August, in Saudi Arabia.
“The deal is agreed and we are waiting for the long-form agreement to be signed,” Hearn told BBC Sport.
“In the coming hours or days they’ll get a copy of the contract that’s ready to go and they’ll sign. Bob’s ego is out of control. That sort of generation it’s all about control and power for them. Let’s all do our job. I am not looking to upset Arum, I’m just saying ‘you will get the latest version of long form and we will get it done’.
“What is Fury going to do? Fight Deontay Wilder for a fifth of the money? The back and forth, I suppose it just comes with the territory of the mega fight. To anyone listening, I really apologize for the backwards and forwards as you’re probably getting bored of it. Try and keep the faith and Bob, try to keep the faith.”
