Back in November, former four division world champion Roy Jones Jr. stepped back in the ring and fought to an eight round draw with former undisputed heavyweight champion Mike Tyson.
The pay-per-view event was financially backed by the Triller app.
Tyson-Jones generated tremendous business – with a reported 1.6 million buys on pay-per-view.
Based on the big numbers, there was immediate talk of Tyson fighting Evander Holyfield in a trilogy as the next PPV main event of Triller Fight Club.
However, back in March, Tyson took to social media to publicly break away from Triller.
“Just to be clear, there is no Tyson with Triller fight. I don’t know any Triller executives personally. I don’t have a deal with Triller or any head executive representing them for the next event,” Tyson stated.
“I’m a partner in Legends Only League, and my next event is with my league. I will never do another event or any business with thriller, so anyone misrepresenting that they own the rights to my name or my next event isn’t true. I am not with or ever will be with Triller’s Fight Club.”
Now Jones, in a recent interview with the Last Stand Podcast with Brian Custer, also expressed his issues with Triller Fight Club.
“We both had issues with them, and still have issues with them. Ryan Kavanaugh called me and personally told me he wanted to do something extra because of the fact the fight did so well. Did that ever happen? No, all a bunch of talk but nothing behind it….I got compensated but not fully, that’s the problem. That’s the real problem,” Jones said.
Jones, 52-years-old, is still interested in fighting again.
“Phil Mickelson has me really inspired me. What he did lit a fire back in me and I got right back in the gym. I said, if Phil can be the oldest to win a major then why can’t you go get that cruiserweight title that has evaded you,” Jones said.
