Nery joins forces with new trainer Jorge Capetillo

Former two-division champion Luis Nery has some rebuilding to do after suffering his first professional defeat, and he’ll be doing so with a new crew behind him. “Pantera” confirmed today that he’ll be working with trainer Jorge Capetillo and strength and conditioning specialist Memo Heredia.

Julius Julianis first revealed the arrangement on Saturday.

Nery’s (31-1, 24 KO) has had something of a revolving door when it comes to his corner, previously splitting from Freddie Roach without a single fight and Eddy Reynoso after an underwhelming decision over Aaron Alameda. He’s still just 26 and clearly has a lot of career ahead of him, but he’ll need some stability to get back on track after Brandon Figueroa knocked him out last May.

If he and Capetillo do manage to click, however, he could find himself back in title contention before long. He’s still ranked fourth by the WBC at 122 pounds and Mauricio Suleiman and co. have been happy to stick their necks out for him in the past. Don’t be surprised to see him in line for a crack at the Fulton-Figueroa winner at some point.
