Euro News: Buatsi-Bauderlique, Lerrone Richards, Lejarraga-Charrat Rematch

Boxing Scene

French heavyweight Mourad Aliev (born in Russia of Azerbaijani descent) has signed with German-Turkish promoter Ahmet Oner. Aliev won silver in the 2019 European championships at super heavyweight and fought in the 2021 Olympics in Japan where he got a lot of headlines for his protests after being disqualified against Frazer Clarke.

It was afterwards determined that the referee had made a mistake but the decision couldn’t be changed.

More details to follow on Aliev’s pro career.

The EBU has changed its decision to order newly crowned super welter champ Kerman Lejarraga to give Dylan Charrat an immediate rematch.

Instead Lejarraga is allowed to make a voluntary defense of the title against an opponent to be announced in December on a Matchroom / Opi since 82 show.

…………………

Joshua Buatsi (15-0) has been appointed official challenger to EBU light heavy champion Mathieu Bauderlique (21-1) and since both are with Matchroom it shouldn’t be a difficult matchup to make.

However, one of them has to lose and that would be a big setback in their respective careers so it looks doubtful this fight comes off.

Bauderlique signed with Matchroom shortly before his fight against Igor Mikhalkin where he won the then vacant EBU title.

………………..

It happened a few days ago but Lerrone Richards (15-0) has relinquished the EBU super middleweight title and John Ryder has left the position as official challenger. The highest available challenger in the EBU rating will be appointed as co-challengers for the vacant title.

Italian Daniel Scardina (19-0) looks like a likely candidate if get past Juergen Doberstein October 1.

AGON Sports had a good night yesterday (Sep 24) in Berlin. In the main event super welter Haro Matevosyan (14-0) retained the IBF I-C title by stopping Swiss boxer Zino Meuli (14-1) who didn’t come out for the ninth round.

Jama Saidi (20-2) won the vacant EU 154 lb title with a clear win over tough Frenchman Howard Cospolite (19-9-3) and middleweight Thomas Piccirillo (9-0-3) outscored Francis Tchoffo (19-18-1).

Light heavyweight Armenak Hovhannisyan (13-1-1) beat durable Finn Timo Laine (19-17-0-1) over twelve to win the vacant WBA Continental title. Most of Laine’s losses has been on the road and with one title or another at stake. Brave and willing but not quite good enough to win means the telephone will keep ringing.

Hovhannisyan is promoted by Marco Huck and his team.
