Top Rank Prez: Fury-Joshua Always a Possibility Because of Their Avid Fans

Top Rank President Todd DuBoef, who co-promotes WBC heavyweight champion Tyson Fury, believes a fight with Anthony Joshua could still happen down the line.

Fury will return to the ring on October 9, in a trilogy fight with Deontay Wilder at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

The ‘Gypsy King’ was hoping to face Joshua in a full division unification in the first half of 2022.

But that scenario was delayed last Saturday night at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, when Oleksandr Usyk outboxed Joshua over twelve rounds to capture the WBA, WBO, IBF, IBO heavyweight titles.

Joshua will now move forward with a planned rematch against Uysk, which is being targeted for the early months of next year.

The winner of Fury vs. Wilder will potentially move in the direction of a mandatory fight with the victory of the upcoming clash between Dillian Whyte and Otto Wallin.

DuBoef expects Fury and Joshua, due their followings, to still collide at some point in the future.

“It is always a possibility because there are avid fans of both fighters,” DuBoef told Sky Sports. “People are connected to both fighters.

“As long as athletes have a following, matches can always be made. I think Joshua can come back, like he did with Andy Ruiz Jr. Hopefully Tyson gets past Wilder. They are both bred in the UK, you have seen them both develop. It is like when Top Rank did Oscar De La Hoya vs Felix Trinidad, a Mexican-American vs a Puerto Rican, we knew the fight had to happen eventually.

“Everybody was talking about that rivalry. Same thing with De La Hoya vs Julio Cesar Chavez. I think [Joshua vs Fury] will eventually happen. How we get there? How it happens? There is uncertainty. But I think it will happen.”
